In their final season of transition before becoming NCAA Division I postseason eligible, the Roadrunners broke through with their first winning season competing against a full DI slate. CSUB secured a winning record on Nov. 1 in a 3-0 shutout of Denver on the Main Soccer Field. Despite falling 3-2 in their season-finale at Seattle, the Roadrunners concluded the 2009 season 8-7-2 overall and 3-4-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, good for a tie for fourth out of eight teams.
In the final regular-season conference statistics report, freshman midfielder Jesus Sanchez sat atop the league in assists (7) and assists per game (0.44), while junior forward Robbie Gouk led the league in game-winning goals (3). Gouk and freshman Evan Fassler tied for fifth in goals scored (6), while freshman goalkeeper Eric Shannon was second in saves (62) and shutouts (5).
Now the Roadrunners await the release of the 2009 All-MPSF teams, scheduled to be released Thursday by the conference office.
